Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Community Members,
This is only my third week and already I feel I have been here for a much longer period. Everyone has made me feel welcome and I certainly feel at home. On my classroom visits I continue to see great teaching and learning and all students being fully engaged in their learning. The other day I watched the Sarah Redfern Cross Country Carnival where I witnessed our students give it their best.
Sarah Redfern Public School continues to undergo work through the BER scheme. Some more classrooms have been refurbished while others are about to undergo their improvements. The hall is about to have a few cosmetic touches and the canteen will follow with a major refurbishment. I have appreciated the understanding and patience that our school community has shown in the much-needed facelift.
Regards

Notice to Parents
Please note, for security reasons, the school gates will be locked during the day as usual. They will be opened just before the bell.
Please do not use the Administration Office as a thoroughfare.
Would parents please be obliging and wait for the students in the allotted area, which is outside the Canteen. This may cause a little inconvenience but it creates a great deal of safety.
Many thanks for your co-operation.

Kinder Capers
Last Tuesday, 11th May, Kindergarten performed at the Infants Assembly. Children from Kinder Red, Kinder Purple and K/1 Blue sang “Old Macdonald Had a Farm” at the top of their lungs, imitating frogs, pigs, sheep, hens, cows and ducks!
The teachers would like to thank all of the supportive parents who were in attendance. We would also like to thank the hard working craft genius of Mrs. Donna Collier, who made the children so gorgeous to watch!

Book Club
The P&C are trialling Schalastic Book Club at our school with their June Issue, which will be sent home soon. This promotion will generate excitement around books and reading. It will offer age appropriate, high quality books at discounted prices. All orders placed will help our school to purchase more resources.
Children will be given a brochure each month detailing many books and other items available to purchase. They are very reasonably priced and make excellent presents as well as helping children learn.
If you wish to place an order, fill in the order form on the back of the brochure, listing the items you would like and place the order form with payment in an envelope, returning it to school by the due date. Payment may be by credit card, cash or cheque (made payable to Scholastic Australia).
Happy reading!

Principal’s Message
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and
Community Members,
Greetings from the newest person in the school.
I am currently finding my way around, meeting students, staff and the community of Sarah Redfern Public School. What I have already experienced are the lovely smiles and welcoming hellos from the students and best wishes from staff and community. Thank you for that. I look forward to an exciting and rewarding partnership with you all.
I would like to bring to your attention that I am a Justice of the Peace and will gladly witness signatures or sign documents for you. If you would like me to act as a JP please make a time at the school office for me to do so.
Refurbishment
The school continues to undergo major refurbishment and therefore, disruptions will continue for some time.
Classes began in the first of the completed classrooms this week. They look fantastic and we look forward to other areas receiving a much needed facelift.
Regards
Mick Aslanis JP
