Dear Parents,
Many, many thanks to all parents who attended last week’s parent/teacher/ student interviews. Most teachers reported that they had shared information regarding the children’s achievements with every parent in their classes. This was a ‘best ever’ for Sarah Redfern P.S.
Building Education Resolution
Many parents may have heard or read about Prime Minister Rudd’s promise to refurbish Australian Primary Schools. Sarah Redfern P.S. will be the recipient of the following:
• $2.5 million to renovate 14 classrooms, the canteen, school hall, and steps/walkway near the senior foyer.
• $150,000 to completely re-landscape the Preschool play-ground.
What a wonderful difference this injection of funds will make to our children’s learning environment. We are impressed and excited!
Education Week
Our major public exhibition of educational achievement will be held in September when we present an Information Communication Techno-logy Expo. Officially Education Week will begin on Monday, 25th May. We will invite parents to join us in classrooms to spend some time sharing experiences and swapping stories about their time in primary school. Please keep an eye out for a note regarding times for your child’s class.
Ambassadors’ Program
Abanita Sarker, our SRC President, will represent our school on Monday, 25th May. She will participate in training during the day and attend a presentation evening at Revesby Workers’ Club.
We are extremely proud of the capable, confident young leader that Abanita has become. Congratulations to the Sarker family!
Teacher Training and Development
Teachers’ training over the next few weeks will concentrate on the following areas:
• Occupational Health & Safety training for committee members, Amanda Sinclair & Mathew Roberts;
• Additional training on the teaching of grammar – Sarah Rudling, Amy Smith & Chad Harris;
• Legal Issues / Family Law – all executive members;
• Financial Literacy – all teachers;
• Use of interactive whiteboards – all teachers.
Return of Opportunity Class (OC) Applications
A reminder to those parents who wish their Year 4 children to complete the tests for the Opportunity Classes located at St. Andrews, Bradbury and Leumeah Public Schools.
Please note that these tests are intended for the most gifted academic students not those in the average to above average range.
Have a good fortnight.
