Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 2. Here’s hoping that you and your children enjoyed each other’s company during the Easter break and that you managed to engage in activities that you could not normally do during school. Now we have to put our noses to the grindstone as this is an extremely important term. We have a new nose to add to the grindstone, that of Ms. Maryam Rasheed, who will be filling in for me.

Black Hats
The school black hats are now compulsory as part of our school uniform. Please ensure your child has their name clearly marked on their hat. Any child without a black school hat will have to stay in the School Hall at recess and lunch time under my supervision.

Swimming Scheme
Swimming Scheme commenced this week. Please ensure that all the necessary gear is sent to school each day to enable students to get the best possible instruction over the next two weeks. Lessons as normal for the students at school.

Parent/Teacher Interviews
During Week 2 parent/teacher interviews will take place. It is imperative that every parent meets with the teacher of their child/children and discusses important matters concerning their academic and social education. Every parent needs to know about their child’s performance, as parents, teachers and students are the vital stakeholders in this educational venture. Notes will be sent home this week with dates and times. If these are not convenient please contact the teacher to negotiate a suitable time.

ANZAC Day
Next Sunday is ANZAC Day and Monday, 26th April is a public holiday. Mr. Bland is organising an ANZAC ceremony for Friday, 23rd April at 2.00pm to commemorate this auspicious day Everyone is most welcome to attend and be part of this proud occasion.

Last, but by no means least, I have the great pleasure of announcing that Sarah Redfern Public School’s new principal is the honourable Mr. Michael Aslanis, who will commence his leadership on 3rd May, 2010. I was informed of this today by the School’s Education Director, Mr. Peter Phelps.

My rise to fame was extremely short lived. Nevertheless, it is an exciting time that we, the staff, students and community of Sarah Redfern P.S., welcomes our new principal.

Sarah Redfern school community would like to extend its condolences to Luce Dunn and her family at the passing away of her father on Friday, 16th April. Ms. Dunn will be back with us on Tuesday, 27th April.

On a more lighter note, Mrs. Nonenmacher gave birth to a bonny baby girl on Tuesday, 6th April. Both are doing extremely well.

The second stage of our building renovation will soon be taking place. The staff are ensuring that the students will be inconvenienced as little as possible and that learning programs will still be of an excellent quality.

Have a good fortnight.
Clarice Maclou
